The Biggest Fight In Australian MMA History Goes Down Tonight At UFC 243
Tonight – LIVE from Melbourne, Australia – UFC 243 will be main evented by a fight that could change the Middleweight Division forever. It’s a fight that will determine the biggest star, and possibly even greatest fighter in Australian mixed martial arts history. It’s a fight too big for arenas, as well, which is why it’s being held at Marvel Stadium, capacity: 53,359.
It’s UFC Middleweight Champion Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker vs Interim UFC Middleweight Champion Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya.
This is one of the best matchups of the year, featuring the all-around BEAST Whittaker returning from a long layoff to defend his championship (and attempt to extend his unbelievable nine-fight win streak) against the most electric striker to enter the company since Conor McGregor – Israel Adesanya, who’s 17-0 as a mixed martial artist, and is coming off the Fight of the Year vs Kelvin Gastelum in March.
This fight is INCREDIBLY hard to pick a winner in. I’ve thought about it constantly over the past few weeks months. I’d personally like to see Adesanya score a victory in tremendous fashion, because I think that’d be awesome for both the UFC and me, as a blogger, but I gotta say…I think it’s finally time I stop doubting Robert Whittaker. I gotta go with the real champ here.
I’m sorry if you’re a Stylebender guy and feel betrayed by me right now, I understand, that’s just what my gut is telling me though. I feel like if he could survive ten rounds of Yoel Romero, he could survive five with Adesanya. Maybe he can’t, however, and that’s why we watch the fights! I’m fucking stoked. I’ll actually be at the GGG fight at the Garden (for an ad deal) for the majority of the card, but I’ll be back in time for the main event/covering it on the go.
Listen to Dana and I break down the main event (and the PHENOMENAL co-main event) below!
